John C. Zaragoza was elected to the Oxnard City Council in 1996, and served as Mayor Pro Tem in 1998.
Mr. Zaragoza represents the City on several Boards, Commissions, and Committees, including:
- Las Cortes, Inc. Housing Authority
- Neighborhood Conservation Taskforce
- Ormond Beach Property Oversight Ad Hoc Committee
- Oxnard Airport Authority
- Oxnard Convention and Visitor’s Bureau
Mr. Zaragoza serves as liaison to:
- Association of Water Agencies for Ventura County
- Beach Erosion Authority for Clean Oceans & Nourishment
- Joint Oxnard/Ventura Cooperative Committee
- Point Mugu Regional Airport Authority
- Regional Defense Partnership for the 21st Century
- Ventura County Animal Regulation Commission
- Ventura County Local Agency Formation Commission
- Ventura Regional Sanitation District
John Zaragoza also participates in a number of community organizations, including the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Ventura County, Oxnard Kiwanis, Oxnard Board of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, National Association of Notaries, Taxtor Education of Income Tax Preparers, and Sunset Little League Board. He is also a past member of the American Red Cross of Ventura County Fundraising Committee, the Los Angeles Times Summer Camp Fund Committee and the CWEP Committee. Mr. Zaragoza was recently nominated for the El Concilio Award for Latino Business Man of the Year.
In recognition of his community involvement, Oxnard Kiwanis awarded him “Kiwanian of the Year, 1995-1996.”
Mr. Zaragoza was raised locally and attended elementary through high school in Oxnard. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at University of La Verne. He was employed by the City of Oxnard for over 31 years; including 15 years as Division head for the Solid Waste Division, retiring from the City in 1993. He currently owns a real estate and tax business in Oxnard.
John Zaragoza and his wife, Mary Ellen, raised their family in Oxnard. Their children are now grown and married.
